Before the CNY feasting began and before I left for my Turkey trip I was fortunate enough to be invited by Absolute PR to the launch of Body Contour Premier’s latest treatment – Cleanslim. Cleanslim combines the modern technology of needle, less the acupuncture coupled with traditional guasha techniques. Do you think that is ouchie? Fret not because it is a non-invasive and safe remedy.

For the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) noobs like myself, Guasha is a physical therapy technique known for healing pain, stiffness, fever, chills, coughs and nausea. It is proven to be effective for a lot of centuries so that’s why the technique is still used today in the modern world of medicine. Plus, it is proven to aid in weight loss.

The skeptic in me said yes to the idea because of the binge eating I anticipate will be happening this season. I booked my appointment last 1^st of February at Raffles Town Club. I was greeted politely by the receptionist who asked me to fill up a standard getting to know me form and was immediately shown the shower and Jacuzzi area. I didn’t have extra time because it was a work day but should I have gone on a weekend I would probably spend some time in the Jacuzzi.

After changing to comfortable clothes, I was escorted to a nice and cozy room and was offered some tea for relaxation. The therapist explained to me what I should expect during the treatment. It all started with a deep tissue massage on the back and guasha. At first, I was uncomfortable with the guasha during treatment but felt good afterwards, expect that your back will be red with all the cupping. Just keep in mind that they’re red for a reason and it’s probably because these are problem areas and need attention. The concentration of my fat are actually in my stomach, therefore specialized massage techniques were applied on my stomach. They say that it’s really effective and helpful for bloating, water retention and loosening stubborn fats tissues.

As for my legs, they were placed on a vibrating body shaker exercise machine and I was told that it’s as good as doing exercise for 45 minutes. Wow, in the comfort of the spa and air-conditioned room, yes please! Cleanslim is priced at $280 per session for 60 minutes but my readers and followers get it at S$68 (valid until 31st March 2016) when you quote my name. Although I didn’t notice an instant change on weight and appearance, I felt calmer and more at peace with my body afterwards, as if I got to know it better. I must admit though that I do put up long hours at work, I spend a lot of time going out and although I practice yoga everyday my body is in so much stress. It’s good to be able to reward and thank your body for a job well done for the long week.

Porcelain's Illuminate Facial - Review

Married for almost a month now but It’s not all fluff and fun, just went through the roughest January of my entire life. Before the wedding, I went for an Illuminate facial at Porcelain Face Spa at Orchard Gateway. This is not my first time at this outlet, I went for a 30-minute pick me up facial before and I loved it to bits. I went there not expecting anything and I came out glowing – you can literally see that your face looks healthier.

So when another opportunity came for me to work with them, I knew I just had to try it.

The signature Porcelain Illuminate facial is a 90-minute treatment that uses an exclusive technology that is only available at Porcelain Aesthetics in Singapore. The technique aims to give you ultimate age-reversing and brightening treatment in just five steps.

But before I share my experience, let me share a little bit about the venue. Porcelain Face Spa has two branches in Singapore – one is tucked away in the quaint Cantonment shop house lane and the other one is right at the hustle and bustle of Orchard (Orchard Gateway) I picked the latter location although it’s smaller in space because of travel convenience, plus I can opt to go right after yoga. I practice at a studio in Orchard Central.

I love that the outlet is bright – it overlooks Somerset road and the bright afternoon sun that beams inside the spa has the lifting-up effect. You also won’t feel claustrophobic and tense while sipping your hot tea. Back to the procedure.

First step is Oxy-Diamante Microdermabrasion, after removing my make-up and cleansing my face. The very gentle microdermabrasion procedure was done to remove the dry outermost layer of the skin.

Second step is the Vinotherapy. Yes you guessed it right, the ingredients that were used is made of Grape Wine, it is said to be effective in exfoliating and providing the right amount of antioxidant to the skin.

The third step is the Oxypulse Massage wherein an equipment is used and Floral Essence is applied which helps in the anti-ageing process, provides anti-oxidant and helps with the skin firming.

The fourth step is the Oxygen Therapy which basically hydrates the skin.

The final and most important step is actually the mask – it seals the procedure, locks in the moisture and keeps the skin healthy for an extended period of time.

Before I left, I was given products to try for a month. The products are very specific to my skin type which is basically dry. I’m not really a fan of applying products on my skin because it’s very time consuming and it makes me feel very sticky. But since my experience with Porcelain Face Spa is very good so far, I decided to give it a try. The ingredients are of the highest imported quality and is fit to the Asian skin and Singapore weather. It’s very light and you can apply make-up over it. I realized that it doesn’t really take as much time as I anticipated once you get the flow and the routine working.

Overall the treatment worked wonders for me and it worked instantaneously as well. Of course, good treatments like this one comes with a price tag. The Illuminate facial is marked at S$400+ per session.

Pies and Coffee - Media Tasting

I used to live at Somerset/River Valley area, whenever Vince and I actually have the time and energy to head out for weekend brunch, Robertson Quay is our area of choice. The location is so peaceful and serene and there are tons of good eating places depending on what we are craving for. One of the places I often see but rarely ate at is Pies & Coffee. I always thought that they only served desserts and well, coffee so we wouldn't really go there for brunch or if we were really hungry. I would only head out there after having dinner elsewhere.

Thanks to Amanda (from Brand Cellar) whom I met at another blogging event, Vince and I was able to sample the hot meals at Pies & Coffee. The media tasting was held at their Alexandra Retail Centre outlet (across Gilman Barracks). They introduced 5 new items in their menu. Can you make a guess which one is my favorite?

Well, if you're following my Instagram account (@hannatantoco), I already revealed that my favorite is the Barbeque Chicken Pie - it's sweet and savory at the same time and the colour red makes it more appetizing! Amongst the new items in the menu, the Lobster Bisque Baked Rice is definitely a win. I've always been a fan of lobster and the cheesy mozarolla cheese made it more tasty.

That's Vince devouring the Beed Cheek, that has always been his favorite.

The prices are from S$9.20 - S$14.90 so it's really reasonable considering some of the items come with a side of salad and mashed potatoes.

Music is part of my daily routine, part of my life in fact. While I prepare in the morning, I play music, during the commute to work, I plug in my earphones, when I’m stressed at work and I need to concentrate I plug in my earphones when I go to the gym or go running I plug in my earphones. That’s why I was very delighted to receive an invitation to attend the media event of Harman/Kardon last 23^rd of June.

Harman/Kardon has been a household name and I’m not kidding – they have all sorts of products for everything in the house and well, the car. There are three big names that they carry, Harman/Kardon which you might have seen in car stereos, AKG which is quite popular among music professionals and live bands and JBL which I think is the brand that most of my generation is accustomed to. But there’s one thing all of these brands have in common – quality. Quality, even music and sound purists can attest to.

Upon reaching the venue, I saw some products displayed and I couldn’t help myself. They were so pretty and such eye candy that I started playing and taking photos of all of it.

Maarten, pictured here introduced the range of headphones including the unreleased N90Q which comes in gold and black and is slated to retail at S$2199.

Andy Tsui, Director of Product Planning and Strategy showed us the range of wireless speakers and explained how durable their products were by dropping it on the floor and he even poured water on one of the speakers to demonstrate.

Of course in any media event, the fun part is the goodie bag! I got a JBL Synchros Reflect BT which I already have and have been using religiously. I guess this new piece will go to the fiancé. Read my previous review here. I’ thrilled for the Flip 2 though! Literally the weekend before when we were entertaining guests during our joint birthday party, my friends complained why we didn’t have a proper speaker (what I had was a generic “burger” speaker which I got when I applied for a credit card) and that we should invest in a wireless Bluetooth speaker. As if the music gods heard me and gifted me with not just a proper speaker – but a very proper one at that. I immediately engaged the fiancé to set it up and we’ve been playing music the whole night testing how far the Bluetooth can reach. I’m also excited to invite friends over so I can show them my new toy.

For those of you who were a tad bit interested or curious about my blog URL, well, every 18^th of June I celebrate my birthday. There are a lot of things I need to be thankful for, apart from my awesome friends, family and fiancé who have supported me in literally anything I’ve decided to do in my life. I’m also thankful for the opportunities I’ve been receiving both in this blog space and in my Instagram account @hannatantoco. What started out as something I decided to do because I was in between jobs and had lots of time on my hands turned out to be something I took seriously – I met new friends in the process and am also very happy to be working with a lot of good brands.

My crazy birthday celebration started last 13^th June (Saturday). I decided to use the staycation voucher I won from Love Bonito at Big Hotel Singapore. This is not the first time I stayed in this hotel and I’m so happy I had the opportunity to do so again. It’s a no-frills boutique hotel right smack the city centre. What I love most is the lobby! I attempted so hard to take a photo in the lobby, but it was just so crowded. The scent in the lobby is also very addicting. I just wanted to grab a book and hangout there the entire day. Here are some snaps from the weekend. On Sunday before we checked out, we went to The National Design Centre. I have always been curious on what to see there, and since it was raining, might as well.

On the 17^th of June, I decided to glam up my nails. I loved the graffiti gelish nail art they did for me last Singapore Fashion Week (it was so complex and we used 10 million colours). I knew I could trust them again to do an awesome job on my birthday nails. I decided to go for subtler colours this time – so plain red for my toes and red and silver glitter gel for my nails. I love it! I can’t help but stare at it the entire day. There’s an ongoing GSS promotion where you get 20% discount of all services until 31^st July!

On the day of my birthday, my colleagues surprised me by decorating my cubicle! They also treated me to lunch - Japanese of course since that’s my favorite.

Later that afternoon, I went to Prep Mandarin Gallery. I heard so much about their famous blowouts and thanks to Mefitted they were able to arrange a birthday blowout (no pun intended!) for me. I was only going to go for a classic blowout as I was pressed for time, but Eva (my stylist) convinced me to get a Geisha Treatment. I was pleased to learn that Prep actually uses Shu Uemura and Redken products as well as more natural procedures (e.g. they don’t use any steamers, but rather just a hot towel). I told Eva I wanted a Great Gatsby / 1920s inspired hairstyle as I haven’t tried it before and I’m just very curious how I’d look like with side-swept hair. I swear she did it under 20 minutes and I was very pleased with the results! My hair lasted until 2 am (Still went clubbing after dinner). My review on Prep is now up on Mefitted! Also, some good news! I’m a Mefitted ambassador and am very excited with the coming months’ collaborations.

Vince and I went to Raffles Hotel for dinner and drinks. This is my last birthday as a single lady and next year we will be celebrating my birthday as husband and wife. Here are some snaps. As you can see, I got carried away. But who wouldn’t? Raffles Hotel has its colonial charm and every nook and cranny is an awesome photo backdrop.

On Saturday 20^th of June, Vince and I arranged a joint birthday party where we invited our closest friends for a barbeque cook out.
