Every 18th of June

Music is part of my daily routine, part of my life in fact.  While I prepare in the morning, I play music, during the commute to work, I plug in my earphones, when I’m stressed at work and I need to concentrate I plug in my earphones when I go to the gym or go running I plug in my earphones. That’s why I was very delighted to receive an invitation to attend the media event of Harman/Kardon last 23^rd of June.

Harman/Kardon has been a household name and I’m not kidding – they have all sorts of products for everything in the house and well, the car. There are three big names that they carry, Harman/Kardon which you might have seen in car stereos, AKG which is quite popular among music professionals and live bands and JBL which I think is the brand that most of my generation is accustomed to. But there’s one thing all of these brands have in common – quality. Quality, even music and sound purists can attest to.

Upon reaching the venue, I saw some products displayed and I couldn’t help myself. They were so pretty and such eye candy that I started playing and taking photos of all of it.

Maarten, pictured here introduced the range of headphones including the unreleased N90Q which comes in gold and black and is slated to retail at S$2199.

Andy Tsui, Director of Product Planning and Strategy showed us the range of wireless speakers and explained how durable their products were by dropping it on the floor and he even poured water on one of the speakers to demonstrate.

Of course in any media event, the fun part is the goodie bag! I got a JBL Synchros Reflect BT which I already have and have been using religiously. I guess this new piece will go to the fiancé. Read my previous review here. I’ thrilled for the Flip 2 though! Literally the weekend before when we were entertaining guests during our joint birthday party, my friends complained why we didn’t have a proper speaker (what I had was a generic “burger” speaker which I got when I applied for a credit card) and that we should invest in a wireless Bluetooth speaker. As if the music gods heard me and gifted me with not just a proper speaker – but a very proper one at that. I immediately engaged the fiancé to set it up and we’ve been playing music the whole night testing how far the Bluetooth can reach. I’m also excited to invite friends over so I can show them my new toy.

I’m so happy floppy hats and boater hats are in season, or else I wouldn’t know what to do with my thick, unruly hair. I may have a way of putting together and styling clothes, but I really suck at fixing my hair. I do own a brush, hair dryer (mom’s) and curling iron (gift) but I have a hard time operating the last two.  I have a headful of hair, and I don’t mean ordinary thick hair. I’m talking volume and weight so it gets out of shape or really heavy when it’s too long. During my collaboration discussion with In Trim Hair, they asked me what results I wanted to achieve so that they can recommend the right hair service for me.

At first I thought I needed an Argan Oil treatment but after further consultation they suggested Anti-Frizz straightening instead.  I told them my hair issue. I would like to maintain the volume or at least the illusion of volume on a daily basis through low maintenance practices (read: I don’t have time to blow dry my hair every morning). 

Anti-Frizz straightening is like putting on permanent make-up. After the treatment my hair will be shinier, frizz-free and easy to manage. She also recommended a hair cut from the senior stylist Jessie, as Jessie could layer my hair in a flattering way.

The entire process including the haircut took 3 hours. But I wasn’t bored at all as I had unlimited green tea and the salon was well-lit with interesting wall designs. I had a chat with Jessie and she said In Trim salon has been in operation for 13 years. They were previously located in Concorde hotel, however due to renovations they moved to The Aperia mall four months ago.

After the process, all I could say is O.M.G. I really felt lighter. I think I lost around 1-2 kg there. My neck, which has been hurting for the past weeks or months now, had a breather.  I could also see that my hair was instantly shiny and it really looks healthier.  I had a haircut as well that complemented my squareish face.

We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights, the first day was spent exploring the old market and night market. I checked out a few souvenirs and settled for a Cambodia fridge magnet. I’m not much of a souvenir person. I sent my best friend in Sweden a postcard from Cambodia when I went to Phnom Penh last year so that will take care of it!

The second day we hired a tuktuk for a full day and contracted him through our hotel to avoid the stress of hustling and to avoid touts.  Our Angkor Wat adventure started at 5:00 am – we wanted to catch the sunrise! Obviously, you can’t really have a full-proof schedule of the sun rise and you just have to make do with an estimate. Reached the place at 5:45 am and since it was summer, the sun rose much later- at around 6:10 am. But ever since we reached the place, we were taking pictures of everything and 30 minutes later the sun was so orange with all its glory. It was so surreal! J Angkor is actually a village where the Angkor Wat is located along with numerous other temples – it would take around 2 to 3 days to complete the route if you are to visit every nook and cranny. We just went to the major ones e.g. Ta Prom (where the Tomb Raider film was shot), Bayon temple, Angkor Thom and Bakong)

The third day we decided to go for a half-day floating village tour and then watch the sunset at the famous Tonle Sap Lake, the biggest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia.  So the floating village actually floats on water during high-tide, but since we went during the hottest month, they were just “floating” on stilts. Our tour guide said that around 2,000 families live in the floating village. Some study and work abroad or in the city, but they always go back to their families. Arrived back at the city around 7:00 pm, went for a cold shower and then headed back to the pub street where I did some gelish pedicure since it was way cheaper than Singapore (US$10). Grabbed a bite, and then went to the convenience store to buy back some snacks for the night cap. 

Overall! We had a blast and a tick off my travel list :)
