Bangkok - D Varee Diva Bangkok experience

I won't be able to count how many times I've been to Bangkok. Hands to heart, one of my favourite cities in the world. What's not to like about Bangkok? Food, people, shopping and more shopping. It's also one of the most convenient places to navigate if you know where to stay. Whenever I'm in Bangkok for leisure I won't even need to hop on the cab, BTS is my best friend.

Since I've been to Bangkok countless times I choose to stay in a location where:

1. That is near a train station (BTS or MRT)
2. Has a shopping centre nearby
3. Good restaurants around it

D Varee Hotels & Resorts operates properties in key destinations throughout Thailand and the region. Their goal is to provide different discerning travelers their choice of accommodation across their various brands - D Varee Gold Label, D Varee Signature, D Varee, D Varee Diva and D Varee Xpress. I stayed at D Varee Diva Silom and Sukhumvit which are the hip budget friendly hotels under the D Varee group of hotels.

D Varee Diva Silom is an easy 5 minutes walk from the Si Lom MRT station and literally a few steps to BTS Sala Daeng. I took the Suvarnabhumi airport line and changed to the MRT line from Makkassan station. Take note I am carrying a massive luggage albeit empty and it was an easy transfer altogether. I traveled with my mom, so yes she has her own luggage too but the entire walk was fairly easy. We were greeted by the friendly receptionist, offered a welcome drink and in a few minutes we got checked in our room.

Tip: Request for a room with a window if you want a view

The deluxe room come in either twin or double bed. Rooms come with modern decor and hardwood flooring, complimentary bottled water, safety deposit box etc. Most importantly the rooms are super clean. The room I got had the street view and was beside the club and since I'm a light sleeper, I requested for a room that was more behind. My mom was actually not bothered because they were not playing very loud anyway but I wanted it to be dead quiet. The room set-up is the same except that it didn't have any windows.

The day after we woke up early because mom and I are breakfast people, I expected just a simple breakfast but was pleasantly surprised with the Thai dishes served.

Tip: For S$9/220 THB you can enjoy the breakfast buffet from 7 am - 10 am

For the next two nights we stayed at D Varee Bally Sukhumvit property. It's a much bigger hotel with 78 rooms, gym and swimming pool. It's a 15-minute walk from BTS Asok and Terminal 21 and there are a lot of cafes and massage parlors around. If you don't feel like walking, their free shuttle service (tuktuk) will take you to the BTS from 9 am - 5pm daily.

If I need to choose between the two properties, I would choose the Si Lom branch because it was so easy to go to especially since my itinerary just consisted of shopping and eating. If you're the type of person to laze around and hangout in the hotel facilities then the Sukhumvit property is a wiser choice.

Thanks,
Hanna
