I am far from being called a yogi, although I've been practicing for one and a half years now. Let me digress a bit because it's actually quite funny how I got into it (yoga). One very boring weekend, I was alone, I had zero plans and not even the idea of online shopping could cheer me up. I called up a girlfriend and demanded that we hangout together. She said she was going to a Bikram class and I should to. For the yoga-noobs or the don't-cares, Bikram is a 90-minute hot class made up of 26 postures. When I say hot, we're talking 39-42 degrees. It's guaranteed to make you sweat so please swipe an extra layer of deodorant ladies. So, back to my story. Armed with a 1-Litre water and the determination to finish the class without fainting or crying due to sheer torture. I survived and funnily enjoyed yoga. To tell you frankly, I was a bit cynical about yoga before I started practicing- I've always been the tough-love sporty girl i.e. football, gymnastics, running, cheerleading-ish. I thought yoga would be too slow and just be about stretching. Well, it was not. I immediately signed up for a package and got hooked all the way. I dropped my gym membership and I just practice yoga and if invited, I run with friends.

But after moving houses last September (why I moved is another blog entry, one that I would write with a bottle of wine in tow), I haven't gone for 2 full months. I work in the Telok Ayer slash Tanjong Pagar area and as I was leisurely walking down Cecil street I saw Freedom Yoga. Just my luck! My office is literally behind it, it would take me 4 minutes door-to-door with the majority of the time taken up by waiting for my office lift (eff, that really takes forever!). The convenience, the cleanliness, mad friendliness of the teachers and the receptionist coupled by the ambience, it took me one class to sign up for a package. Take note, this is not a sponsored post :) Also, because it is convenient I sometimes also use their loo for emergency purposes if you know what I mean.

The Club's First Year Anniversary - Media invite

Last Thursday, I was invited by Huntington Communications for The Club’s First year anniversary. Located right smack Telok Ayer and Ann Siang hill, which means it’s just stones-throw away from the office and super convenient for dropping by for an after-office rendezvous. The theme of the event is The Great Gatsby – who wouldn’t be excited with the 1920s glam- pearl necklace, feather headbands and whisky shots so I said, I was in. Another reason I was down is because they’ll be unveiling The Disgruntled Brasserie. This is by the same people who manage The Disgruntled Chef at Dempsey Hill and the popular bar and dining chain, Harry’s.

Although I frequent the Ann Siang area (once a week), I never really paid attention to The Club – for one I thought it was a just a hotel and second, if they had drinks they’d probably cost an arm and a leg. But thankfully The Disgruntled Brasserie is more casual with dinner plates ranging from $26 - $38. The environment is cozy and posh without being intimidating. I could imagine it being perfect for dinner dates or that much needed girlfriend R&R.

We got to try the platter of appetizers – my favourites are the Snow Crab Pasta, Steak Tartare and Beet-cured Salmon. If the appetizers were not mouth-watering enough, the mains were to die for. We had the Baked Miso Cod ($38) and the Foie Gras Beef Burger ($28). The cod was so fresh, it melts in your mouth. You’re in for a surprise once your teeth sink in the Foie Gras burger, because the Foie gras would just be oozing out f the beef patty. Although admittedly I was already full at this stage with the food and the free-flow white wine, there’s always room for desserts and the desserts were in the form of Lemon Tart Brulee ($14) and Sticky Toffee Pudding ($14). Being the fruity and sour-person that I am, be it coffee, cider or desserts. I preferred the Lemon Tart over the pudding.

After eating, we were taken for a tour, firstly to digest the massive meal we had and secondly to see the whisky bar on the basement called B28, the dreamy suite room at The Club Hotel and finally the Peruvian-inspired rooftop bar called Tiger’s milk where we ended the night. Overall, it was such a chill and palate-satisfying evening and it would surely be a new spot to check out. Sharing some snaps with newly-married bae, Janice (congrats love!).

Taming my mane

Visited Kenjo Salon almost two weeks ago and as always, I’m so excited to drop by. I always go on Sundays for two reasons – lesser people, more relaxed environment and second I can come to work on a Monday with an awesome blowout. 2 months ago, if you remember I tried two-toned highlights, obviously using Mucota products. Two months after, the shade has lightened up and I’m getting used to this light shade. I will definitely try to bleach my hair so that I can try candy colours towards the holidays. For now, I tried the Mucota Scena+ treatment done by my favourite stylist, James. A 5-step treatment using ingredients found in hair itself and especially formulated for Asian hair types.

I always order black coffee! And during my visit, Lotus snacks were given (I had 3!)

The Scalp Spa was applied to my hair and then massaged and then the steamer combed (this is the first time I saw such a device) was used to open the cuticles. The Essence Scalp Cream adds moisture by replenishing the natural moisturizing factor of your hair and scalp.

A or Adel, which is a moisture base treatment was applied and was left for 5 minutes. This jelly-looking substance contains various elements which penetrates deep into the hair structure, mimicking natural moisture retention elements that makes hair soft and hydrated. After 5 minutes, I went for a rinse.

B (Brava) and C (Calore) are sprayed and applied simultaneously. B is an intensive hair repair serum that repairs a wide spectrum of damaged hair, it creates a net-like structure in hair that prevents essential elements from flowing out and improves texture. C is responsible for protecting and sealing the lustre and keeping the hair shiny, smooth and silky for extended periods of time. After the products were applied, I went for a 10-minute easy steam and then I went for a wash.

The final step is the Ethos which basically helps detox and neutralize residual agents left from chemical treatment, thus preventing further damage. It contains silk proteins and ceramaide, which I read improves hair condition.

I’ve always been a fan of Mucota products, they’re very easy on Asian hair and it doesn’t leave that musty, salon smell afterwards that will make you dizzy. Make sure you set aside around 1.5 hours-2 hours for this treatment. Enjoy 15% discount when you quote my name and look for James!
